The Maison Rouge Strasbourg Hotel & Spa, Autograph Collection is a luxury hotel on the “Big Island” in the heart of Strasbourg.
Part of the Marriott Autograph Collection of Hotels, it features Art Deco decor from the 1920s and 1930s. It is the city’s oldest hotel, featured in the historic Maison Rouge building that opened in 1387.
It is fully renovated with modern amenities. Its central location is a significant draw because it’s close to the city’s famous cathedral, Notre-Dame de Strasbourg, and The Rue de la Mésange, with its luxury boutiques.
Public transportation is also accessible here because it is a 10-minute walk from Strasbourg’s TGV train station and 50 meters from the tram, providing access to the rest of the city.
I first approached the hotel at night and was awed by its illuminated exterior. When I entered the hotel, I was surprised at how quiet it was even though it was on the busy Rue des Francs Bourgeois.
The check-in desk was elegant, and all the staff wore distinctive red elbow pads on their uniforms, which was a nice touch.
When I arrived, the staff was friendly. However, having only one check-in desk slows the process down depending on the day you arrive. I’ve seen other guests mention that they experienced no delay. “The check-in was smooth and easy at noon.
The hotel features 131 rooms, some of which have a view of the cathedral. All the rooms have amenities such as a flat-screen TV, makeup mirrors, a Nespresso machine, and free Wi-Fi. Guests have several choices of room type.
I received an upgrade, a nice note, and a complimentary wine. This had nothing to do with running a travel website but rather a function of having status with Marriott.
The hotel features a spa open to hotel guests and the public by reservation. Hotel guests pay a fee of 25 Euros for one hour; external customers pay more. I had to check it out and see what it’s all about.
The spa features a Hamman, steam room, sauna, whirlpool, and sensory shower in a white and black marble environment.
The spa provides a menu of treatments, including facials, anti-aging treatments for the whole body, massages, reflexology, pedicures, manicures, and eyebrow therapies. Vinotherapy also is one of the treatments. The hotel also has a fitness center.
Other reviewers liked the spa. Onone reviewere praised “the decoration, the service, beautiful hammam and SPA in general.” Some complained about it being small. One reviewer suggested that guests have one complimentary visit.
Guests were less enthusiastic about the gym. “The fitness room was a bit rudimentary,” wrote one reviewer from Switzerland.
The hotel has the 1387 Bar and Restaurant and the Mistinguett Salons, where the breakfast room offers a full North American-style breakfast buffet and Sunday brunch. The hotel also has an extensive room service menu.
One reviewer wrote, “Our rooms came with breakfast, and it was wonderful. The presentation and connecting rooms is beautiful. ” The reviewer added that breakfast included ordering off the menu and a buffet. “I suggest ordering the French toast.”
One of the strongest selling points for the Maison Rouge is its location in the center of Strasbourg and near La Petite France. Its excellent service and wealth of amenities also made it unique. Another selling point is its breakfast buffet, allowing guests to order from the menu.
The area surrounding the hotel features the cathedral, quaint shops, and cobblestone streets. All are worth a visit. The hotel is also well-located for a day trip to Bavaria in Germany or other parts of France via train.
The hotel has a luxury price tag and provides a luxurious experience. It is worth the money for those who want an experience and a convenient place to stay the night.
Most folks staying in the Maison Rouge Strasbourg Hotel would stay there again and recommend it to friends and family. I would definitely agree with this. Driving to the hotel is difficult, and parking is extremely challenging, so taking the train, walking, or a taxi are better options.
