This hotel is about a 12-minute walk to the Horta Museum and close to the Notre-Dame du Sablon and Palais de Justice. This hotel, built in 1911, has some of the best city views with a certain ambiance that is quite its own.

The Check-in Experience

Upon arrival, each staff member greeted me, looked me in the eye, and thanked me for my first visit to Brussels. Even before I arrived at the front desk, I was asked more than once how I could be helped. It was quite a welcoming experience with seemingly happy people from the start to the finish.

The check-in process only took a few minutes, and other guests were being helped immediately. I booked my stay online, but they had no problem pulling up my reservation, confirming my information, and then providing me access to my room.

Room Overview

The Steigenberger Wiltcher offers several room types, including the Superior Room, which features three-person rooms in an extra-large double bed. The Deluxe Room features room for as many as five people, and the Junior Suite offers enough space for up to six people.

The location also offers several other options, including the Presidential Suite, which can accompany a small family, and the Duplex Suite. I stayed in a king room with a terrace with a beautiful courtyard view. It had an extra large double bed. My daughter enjoyed the back terrace.

I thought the room was big and well-stocked, but some areas were run down, just needing a touchup of paint here and there. It was clean. I wish the terrace were bigger to sit and relax in the evening.

Property Amenities & Facilities

This hotel, which is quite like stepping back in time in terms of the ornate detailing and design, is packed with amenities and features. They have a fitness center with classes, a massage service available, and a steam room. They do have an indoor swimming pool that is adult-only.

I found this area fairly basic and offered what would be expected in a higher-end hotel. I wouldn’t say I liked that I had to pay extra to access the fitness center. However, the prices for the spa and wellness center, sauna, and hot spring bath were both expected and reasonable.

Dining and Cuisine

There’s a kettle in the room but not much else. That’s okay because several restaurants are at the location, including a Michelin-star restaurant called La Canne en Ville, which offers contemporary dishes. I enjoyed a drink in the Loui Cocktail Bar & Restaurant while there.

The handcrafted cocktails were divine. I asked them to prepare something local for me, and the staff were accommodating. I also dined at Café Wiltcher’s, which offers a breakfast buffet in the morning. The food was hot and consistently refilled, and I would say a good mixture of European options.

Unique Selling Points

Though it may not excite everyone, I truly enjoyed the unique architecture throughout the hotel, including the arched windows, the stunning floors, and the expansiveness of the space. It’s quite an elegant option.

Surrounding Area

The Steigenberger Wiltcher is located right on Avenue Louise, which puts guests in the heart of the city’s most lively area. It’s simple enough to step outside, take a few steps, and enjoy the museums and courtyards here. Some of the best places to visit in Belgium, including Sablon, Parc de la Porte de Hal, and the Peter Pan Statue, are all within a few short steps.

I also like that the Metro Louise and the Bruxelles-Chapelle train station are within a short wall, making it easy to get around. The river is a bit far, about 20 minutes from the hotel, but it is worth the drive, especially if you rent a bike to get there.

Value for Money

Though a bit more expensive than other locations, it’s worth staying at Steigenberger Wiltcher for several reasons. The first is its location in the city’s heart, which cannot get much better for those who want to remain in the middle. I also loved the space throughout the location.

I would recommend staying at Steigenberger Wiltcher to anyone who loves history, architecture, and all the city offers.
