About the Hewing Hotel

Nothing beats the Hewing Hotel in the heart of North Loop when tasting Minneapolis’ rich history. Nestled snugly in a historic building in the bustling warehouse district, this trendy hotel boasts the perfect mix of luxury and gritty charm, begging you to explore its many rooms and cozy nooks and crannies.

Exposed brick and reclaimed wood from the 1800s greet you as you trek through the lobby, giving off a vibe that screams Minnesota cool. Hewing Hotel isn’t your average downtown snoozefest.

Oh no, it’s got personality for days. The gorgeous blend of original industrial elements, metal accents, and brick and plush amenities in every corner will strike you.

My pre- and post-wedding reception at Hewing was the talk of the town, with its top-notch service and downright delicious grub at the glamorous, chef-driven restaurant Tullibee.

And let me tell you, you haven’t lived until you’ve checked out the hotel’s rooftop area—trust me, you’ll be blowin’ up your Insta feed for weeks.

Location & First Impressions

Minneapolis is home to me, and I loved this boutique hotel so much once it was being developed that I even had my wedding party here for pre- and post-reception celebrations. The hotel is a former warehouse building in the North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis. It is an energetic area of Minneapolis.

I lived in the North Loop for three years and was near the hotel, so I knew it well. It was a go-to spot for happy hours and great rooftop bar vibes.

The spot’s ideal for both work and play. A stone’s throw from the Mississippi River and Downtown, workin’ buzz and the city’s most trendy spots for nightlife are never far away. North Loop, a progressive neighborhood often dubbed the city’s most progressive ‘hood, Hewing’s got it goin’ on.

Regarding entertainment, you can mark my words – the hotel’s a quick walk to Target Field. Catch a Twins game (check ticket prices on Stubhub for last-minute seats), soak in the local vibe, or explore the historic warehouse district; Minneapolis never disappoints.

Although it looked like a warehouse, the decorations were modern, original, and inviting, and the vibe was welcoming. My first impression was that this place had a modern fill and that you could have fun there.

The Check-in Experience

Our first experience was with the valet, who was warm and friendly. I had no issues leaving our car with him. The check-in process was easy, and our reservation was exactly right. I have been to many places that overbooked or didn’t get our reservation right, so this was a nice touch.

The staff is professional, but not so much that they feel not genuine. I felt like I could ask them anything, and they would do their best to help me.

Property Amenities & Facilities

This place has a lot of amenities that make it a fun place to stay. There’s a rooftop bar and restaurant, a lounge, a dry sauna, a heated spa pool (similar to a hot tub but blended with a pool), free Wi-Fi access, and a fitness center.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We had an interior room, which, while a great location, unfortunately didn’t have any windows or sunlight. However, the room was nice enough that it didn’t bother us too much. The mini bar was stocked with good snacks, drinks, and alcohol.

Dining & Cuisine

The hotel on site has several places to eat. On the second night of our stay, we tried Tullibee. The waiter told us they were a farm-to-table place, which was awesome.

They are open year-round for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They even have brunch on the weekends. We were only able to check them out for dinner. We both ordered the Chef’s Choice menu and were not disappointed.

Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The rooftop and bar area had a great selection of craft beer, which is hard to find anywhere. The smoked trout dip was also a must-try.

I promise! If the rooftop lounge isn’t your thing, the Hewing Bar & Lounge might have something for you. We only visited one night, but the Hewing Old Fashioned and duck-fat french fries were enough to impress me.

Unique Selling Points

The best thing about the Hewing Hotel is that it is close to the North Loop. My friend went to college in Minneapolis. She always told me how cool the North Loop area was in downtown Minneapolis, but I never experienced it until the night I stayed at the Hewing Hotel.

There is so much to see and do there. We visited a great restaurant and wine pairing with a James Beard Award-winning chef, Gavin Kaysen, called Spoon and Stable one day, and the next day, we rented bikes and went cycling by the river. The proximity to so many things definitely makes this place worth it.

Surrounding Area

I have already mentioned some things about the Hewing Hotel. But the surrounding area has so much more to offer. There are so many bars and restaurants; visiting them all is impossible.

The city also offers scooter rentals, so you can pay to take a scooter through the city. I highly recommend this mode of transportation if you don’t plan on getting too drunk.

Guest Reviews

I have enjoyed frequenting the Hewing Hotel on several occasions, including my pre and post-wedding celebrations. I possess a wealth of knowledge regarding the establishment and its offerings. In order to provide an informed perspective, I conducted an overview of TripAdvisor reviews, which yielded the following insights.

This establishment has undergone a significant transformation since its inception. Initially a showroom for agricultural tools, it has since evolved into one of the most fashionable destinations in Minneapolis.

The sauna and rooftop pool have received high praise from guests, while the hotel’s Tullibee restaurant and cozy bar have cultivated a relaxed atmosphere. However, during the winter months, it is worth noting the presence of couples on annual staycations.

Upon examination of Expedia’s reviews, it is apparent that the Hewing Hotel is a preferred choice among guests, with a solid rating of 9.4 out of 10 based on 875 reviews. The hotel is particularly praised for its cleanliness, staff and service, and amenities, earning 9.7/10, 9.4/10, and 9.1/10, respectively.

While there was a minor issue with the backroom service at Tullibee, the staff at Hewing promptly resolved the matter by offering complimentary drinks to the guest. Overall, the Hewing Hotel has a strong track record of providing quality service to its patrons.

Value for Money

While the spa pool and in-room options are a little pricey, the rooms and on-site dining options aren’t bad. The price seems worth it to guests and me for how centrally located this hotel is.

Some things in the room felt bare, but I didn’t think the value was that bad overall. The staff is friendly, there is a lot to do nearby, and the beds are comfy. What more do you and your guests need?
