Where to Splurge
The Rijksmuseum van Oudheden is one of Europe s finest antiquities museums, with an actual Egyptian temple in its entrance hall — world-class and worth every euro. Naturalis Biodiversity Center is a spectacular natural history museum, recently renovated and among the best in Europe. The Hortus Botanicus, the Netherlands oldest botanical garden (1590), is small but beautifully maintained. A Pilgrim Fathers walking tour reveals the houses and churches where the future American colonists worshipped and worked. The canal boat tour through Leiden offers perspectives on buildings not visible from the street.
