Address: 1500 Reynolds Street, Key West, Florida 33040

The Casa Marina Key West, Curio Collection by Hilton is a former Waldorf Astoria resort property (so if it sounds familiar, that could be why). Wondering where to stay in Key West for a truly luxurious experience? This would be the place. Even though it’s no longer a Waldorf Astoria resort, it’s one of the most luxurious resorts you’ll find in Key West for weddings, honeymoons, or any luxury Florida Keys vacation.

Flanked by stately palm trees, the 1920s Casa Marina is on the National Register of Historic Places and has hosted celebrities such as Ethel Merman, Gregory Peck, President Warren G. Harding, and Rita Hayworth. The hotel was railroad tycoon Henry Flagler’s promise of a luxury resort after the completion of the Overseas Railway, which linked Key West to the Florida mainland. When not in use as a luxury hotel, the property was used for Peace Corps training and was commandeered by the U.S. military during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960s.

The Casa Marina Key West has two oceanfront swimming pools, an on-site restaurant, a coffee shop, a fitness center, and one of the largest private beaches in Key West. Check into the Spa al Maré for oceanfront massages, facials, and aromatherapy at this former Waldorf Astoria resort.

Address: 7001 Shrimp Road, Key West, Florida 33040

Formerly known as Stock Island Marina, the Perry Hotel & Marina is on the next island over on Stock Island. It features a unique blend of island industrial ambiance and coastal décor. The pet-friendly hotel offers a guest room with hardwood floors, leather accents, private balconies, and water and marina views.

Boaters will be happy to hear that the 288-slip marina is the largest deep-water harbor in the Florida Keys. The marina has state-of-the-art floating docks, fuel docks that can accommodate vessels up to 450 feet, and a large liveaboard community. Marina guests can enjoy hotel amenities, including free internet access, shuttle service to reach Key West, several pools, on-site restaurants, a fitness center, laundry facilities, and two dog parks.

The When and If schooner is docked at the Perry Hotel. Should you get the chance to sail, I highly recommend it. Commissioned by General George S. Patton and designed by renowned yacht designer John Alden, the stunning ship was built in 1939.

As the story goes, Patton said, “When the war is over and if I return, Bea and I are going to sail the world.” Well, the war did end, and he did return, but he didn’t sail around the world. He used the ship in the Chesapeake Bay and along the U.S. East Coast. It now winters in Key West and summers in Massachusetts (some boats have all the luck).
