Lots of people only visit San Jose briefly when they visit Costa Rica.
The country’s main airport is here, so most people pass through, but most leave almost immediately to head to the forests, volcanoes, and beaches. This is understandable, but it’s worth exploring Costa Rica’s largest city at least a little bit.

Your local guide will take you around the city, point out some sights, and tell you about its history. But, more importantly, they will take you to Mercado Central and Mercado Borbon to try local food.
You’ll be able to sample seasonal fruit, tamales, and empanadas and will get a chance to try making tortillas and plantain empanadas, too. This is a great way to experience the city and the true local “flavor” of it, too!
13. Tortuguero Canals Including Playa Bonita and Puerto Limon Highlights – Limon
The Caribbean coast and Pacific Ocean coast of Costa Rica are very different from one another, and both are worth exploring. This tour departs from Limon, and in just four hours, you’ll see and learn so much about this side of the country.
