Due to its staggering views, this gorgeous park is considered one of the most popular places to see in Lake Tahoe. However, there’s an abundance of activities to be found here, too.

Swimming in Lake Tahoe always proves popular, as does hiking the many trails around the park. There are several intriguing sites of historical interest, such as Vikingsholm Castle, a stunning 38-room mansion built in 1929. Many visitors like to take a boat tour of the bay, while others try canoeing and kayaking.

Situated along Lake Tahoe’s western shore, the iconic state park is popular for campers. You can rent one of the cabins in the surrounding area or set up a base in the many campgrounds. But even if you’re just there for a relaxing day trip, you’ll surely love the incredible views of Lake Tahoe’s blue-green water.

It’s important to note that entry to Emerald Bay State Park is free, though a nominal parking fee also grants access to the nearby D.L. Bliss State Park. 4. Rubicon Point Lighthouse

7. Ride the Gondola at Heavenly Mountain Resort

Sometimes called “Tahoe’s Hidden Castle,” Vikingsholm is another intriguing attraction you must add to your bucket list. The castle was built in 1929 as a replica of a Viking-era castle.

It’s located at the head of Emerald Bay and is one of the most photographed locations in the United States—who knew?!

Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the castle, which lasts approximately one hour, or they can join a guided tour instead, which lasts about 90 minutes. Either way, you’ll discover the castle’s fascinating history while surveying its most beautiful features. 

Vikingsholm is considered one of the country’s finest examples of Scandinavian-inspired architecture. In addition to the castle, visitors can explore the grounds, which include a beach, numerous hiking trails, and a picnic spot.

This attraction opens from Memorial Day weekend through to October. But if you’re visiting Lake Tahoe in the winter, you can still enjoy the views of Emerald Bay from the castle’s deck. This is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best attractions in the Tahoe region. Don’t forget your camera!

18. Rubicon Peak Trail

19. Lower Eagle Falls

Visitors can gaze upon Lower Eagle Falls from a viewing platform just a short walk from the parking area. This viewpoint is ADA-accessible, allowing everyone to enjoy the majesty of this impressive waterfall.

20. Pope Beach

The Tahoe Trout Farm is home to two separate ponds filled with hundreds of rainbow trout, making it a great place to catch your dinner. The staff provides all the necessary equipment and cleans and cooks the fish. Visitors may also purchase live trout to take home.

After fishing in the on-site pond, you can tour the farm and discover how the trout are raised. There’s a gift shop where you can pick up souvenirs and trinkets to remember your experience.

Another option for getting around Lake Tahoe is to use the South Tahoe Public Utility District’s (STPUD) public transportation system. The STPUD operates a bus system throughout the Tahoe basin, and it’s a great option if you’re looking to save money on transportation.

The buses here are clean and comfortable, and they run on time. You can also purchase a day or weekly pass, which gives you unlimited rides on the STPUD system.
