Living Hotel De Medici Review

Location & First Impressions

If you’re looking for a gorgeous place to stay in historic Old Town Düsseldorf, look no further than the Living Hotel De Medici. Located right between the Rhine and Hofgarten, this place oozes old-world charm.

Set in a heritage-listed building that was once a monastery, The Living Hotel De Medici has done a beautiful job maintaining its historic grandeur. You’ll see what I mean when you walk into the lobby, which features a black and white marble tiled floor, lush Victorian chairs, and an inviting fireplace.

Check-in and Rooms

I’ve always had a great experience with the hotel staff and concierge, who will care for you from the moment you walk in. Whether you need help with baggage storage or currency exchange, someone at the front desk is always happy to help.

One of my favorite parts about the Living Hotel De Medici is that the ambiance doesn’t end with the beautiful artwork, gold trim, and ironwork railing you’ll see on the way to your room. Even the most basic rooms are decked in classic artwork, rich wood paneling, and antique furniture.

If you’re looking to splurge, then be sure to check out the Kurfürstensuite. This stunning apartment looks like something straight out of Versailles.

Amenities and Facilities

Whether you’re in town for business or vacation, the hotel has you covered with plenty of amenities. You’ll find three conference rooms on site, the largest of which has enough room for up to 200 people.

There’s also a fitness room on-site where you’ll find all the cardio machines and weights you need to stay on top of your health goals. But if you’re looking to unwind, be sure to check out the hotel’s spa and wellness center.

Decked out in beautiful Egyptian murals and comfortable loungers, it’s got everything you need to relax after a long day of exploring. The spa also offers excellent services ranging from a full-body massage to facial treatments.

Dining and Cuisine

The hotel’s love of art is evident in its restaurant, a classy venue known as Brasserie Stadthaus. There, you’ll find everything from an exceptional wine list to next-level French cuisine, all under a stunning coffered ceiling.

The hotel’s daily breakfast buffet is worth rising and shining to enjoy. From locally sourced sausage to fresh fruit, it caters to multiple tastes.

Unique Selling Points

The Living Hotel De Medici is one of those places that proves just how far ambiance can go in creating a unique experience. Part hotel, part private art collection, each stay blends the best of both modern and traditional luxury.

It’s one of the few hotels I’ve stayed in worldwide that always feels like an experience. From the excellent location to optional add-ons like airport shuttle service or grocery deliveries, you’ll find everything you need to enjoy a stress-free stay.

Surrounding Area

Regarding location, the Living Hotel De Medici is hard to beat. A short walk will take you to Hofgarten, Düsseldorf’s Central Park, or Königsallee, the world-renowned shopping boulevard.

There are also plenty of attractions, including museums like Schifffahrtsmuseum and the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen art museum. Not to mention historic landmarks like the famous Jan-Wellem-Reiterstandbild statue and Old Town Hall.

Regarding bars and restaurants, you’ll find a nice selection of international options nearby. Head over to Schwan Restaurant Düsseldorf Altstadt for a great German meal, 20° Restobar for Spanish cuisine, or Block House Düsseldorf for a great steak.

Value for Money

I know what you’re thinking – how much will this cost me? Not as much as you’d think. Honestly, the Living Hotel De Medici is one of those places I pray never figures out that they could get away with charging way more than they do. While prices fluctuate with the seasons, booking a stay for less than you’d pay for an unexceptional, mid-priced American hotel is possible.

As you’ve probably gathered from my telltale enthusiasm, I’d highly recommend the Living Hotel De Medici to any traveler. It’s become my go-to hotel in Düsseldorf and a place I look forward to revisiting it every time.
