Gràcia Barcelona

Gràcia occupies the northern fringe of central Barcelona, wedged between the Eixample and the lower slopes of Collserola. It was an independent municipality until 1897 and retains a distinct village identity expressed through its tight street grid, resident-run ateneus, and a calendar of neighbourhood festivals that rivals anything in the city.

What is Gràcia known for?

Gràcia is known above all for its dense concentration of lively squares, its Modernista residential architecture, and the Festa Major de Gràcia held every August, during which streets compete to produce the most elaborate handmade decorations and the neighbourhood draws over a million visitors across ten days. The barri also produced prominent Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, who lived here and built Casa Vicens on Carrer de les Carolines, his first major commissioned work, now open as a museum. The market Mercat de l’Abaceria on Travessera de Gràcia anchors daily local commerce.
