Travel Blazers 101
The term travel blazer is a bit broad, but it essentially boils down to a blazer designed for travel. Yup. Ah, but what sort of travel? I am getting to that.
Nowadays the term typically refers to smart, office-type suit jackets designed to be wrinkle-resistant, machine washable, lightweight, and breathable.
They are easy to clean and maintain, and they don’t need ironing or a visit to the dry cleaner. They are invaluable for any regular traveler packing a bag with a premium on space, who needs to look sharp at their destination.
But there are others… Travel blazers come in all shapes, sizes, and purposes. For example, there’s the heavier tweed wool travel blazer; arguably the OG travel blazer. You can find yourself a travel blazer for hunting, fishing, or even a travel blazer for safari.
You could find a waterproof blazer with a hood, blazers with lots of pockets, blazers for men and women, sport coats, downy jackets, oiled waterproofs, and so on, and so forth.
How to Size Your Travel Blazer
The key to feeling confident in your wardrobe is ensuring your clothes fit properly. It is amazing what a well-fitting outfit can do for your own confidence and body positivity.
This is particularly important if you’re looking for a suit jacket for business travel or are off to a wedding. So it’s best to get measurements to ensure your new travel blazer fits.
Before we start measuring, you’ll need a soft measuring tape – break out your sewing kit!
(This process is much easier if you have someone to help you hold the tape!)
- Measure around the neck; Hold measuring tape level, leaving enough room to breathe comfortably. Measure your neck size in inches and half inches and round up to the nearest half-inch.
- Chest/Bust; Measure around the fullest part of the chest. Keep the tape level under the arms and across the shoulder blades. Round to the nearest inch.
- Waist; Stand naturally and measure around the smallest part of your natural waistline, (usually just above hip bones). Make sure the tape is level. It should feel snug but not tight. Round up to the nearest inch.
- Hips; Measure around the fullest part of your hips, (approximately 9 inches down from the waist). Again, make sure the tape is level, and again it should be snug but not tight. Round up to the nearest inch.
- Sleeve: Starting at the center of your back, measure across the shoulder, down the outside of the arm, and along the elbow to the point where the wrist meets the hand. Round up to the nearest inch.
Don’t feel like dealing with this hassle-faff? You can always go to a tailor or clothing store, and someone there should be able to get accurate measurements!
Hopefully, some of this eclectic selection tickles your fancy or has given you some ideas of what’s out there for travel blazers and jackets. Got a favorite we didn’t mention? Tried any of these out yourself? Let us know!
